(As Described by The Met:) Album with 20 pochoir pattern plates, titled "Samarkande: 20 Compositions en couleurs dans le Style oriental" (Samarkand: 20 Color Compositions in the Oriental Style), created by E. A. Séguy and published in Paris by Charles Massin around 1914. The collection contains a half title, title page, and 20 illustrated plates with ornamental designs, probably for textiles or wallpapers, with semi-abstract flower motifs, inspired on the Oriental styles created by the artists of Samarkand. Executed with bold colors, the semi-abstract designs in this album present an interesting combination of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. The illustrations created by Séguy reveal his unique interest in the study of nature as a source of inspiration for artistic creation. The use of pochoir as a printing technique, popular in France at the turn of the 20th century, was ideal for capturing the vivid colors of nature present in Orientalist designs. This vertical gallery wrapped canvas print will always look as tight and flat as the day it was made. Every frame is built with a solid face to support the canvas and prevent deforming. Available in multiple sizes, comes in walnut and black frame options.
